Mpho Kgaswane netted a memorable brace as Baroka defeated Cape Town City 2-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Citizens dominated proceedings for large parts of the game, but were left frustrated by poor finishing with winger Lyle Lakay providing a number of telling crosses throughout the clash.
Bakgaga took the lead despite it being much against the run of play courtesy of a venomous strike by Kgaswane in the 35th minute.
Despite the wave of attacks launched at the visitors’ goalframe, Baroka managed to maintain their one-goal lead heading into the half-time break.
The second half continued in similar vein with City creating a number of good golscoring opportunities, however the likes of Judas Moseamedi and Craig Martin proved wasteful with their efforts.
A good passing move in the 67th minute between Gift Motupa and Xola Mdatsane almost saw the former double the lead, however Motupa was not able to get onto the end of the cutback.
Benni McCarthy then introduced Sibusiso Masina, Shane Roberts and Ebhrahim Seedat for Surprise Ralani, Martin and Lakay respectively.
The Mother City outfit continued with their wastefulness and were punished as Kgaswane netted his brace – again against the run of play, finishing a counter-attacking move with a fine strike.
