Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter was full of praise for his side after hammering Chippa United at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys ended their four-game winless run by cruising to a comfortable 4-0 victory over the Chilli Boys.
A first-half brace from Keagan Dolly and second-half goals from Khama Billiat and Lazarous Kambole earned Amakhosi three points on home soil and moved them up to eighth place on the log with nine points after seven games.
Baxter felt that the scoreline did not reflect the true performance of both sides on the day, stating that it should have been a “closer” game than it was.
“I thought the lads played well tonight,” Baxter told SuperSport TV after the game.
“It was probably a closer game than 4-0. We decided in the second half we would play deeper. We invited a few crosses. When you take your chances and don’t miss chances and when you prevent your opponent instead of giving the opponent those moments I was speaking out before the game.
“This is what can happen. If there’s a mental shift, then there’s a momentum shift. And then Keagan Dolly believes he’s going to score a goal. He said he’s been snatching at it. I’m very pleased with the way they played.
“We work all the summer on our attacking play and the movement around the box. I think our movement around the box was especially good tonight. It was probably what Chippa had most problems with. The mobility, the speed the lads were moving at. And if we’d done it more there were probably and I don’t want to be bad-mannered but there were probably a few more goals for us in that respect on transition.”
He added: “For them to get on the scoresheet, it’s great for their confidence. Confidence breeds confidence. We said we should concentrate on our performances.
“We shouldn’t concentrate on everything that is said or speculated. And that’s what the boys did and they did it very well and I’m very pleased in that respect,” he concluded.
