Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy cut a frustrated figure after his side extended their winless streak to five consecutive games in the PSL with a loss against Baroka on Tuesday night.

Despite the Citizens’ dominance throughout the game, a stunning brace by Mpho Kgaswane saw Bakgaga run out 2-0 victors against McCarthy’s outfit.

The Bafana Bafana all-time top scorer was visibly upset with his team’s perfomances and lambasted a number of his players in post-match comments.

‘You can play beautiful football, you can dominate for 90 minutes, entertain the fans, but if you don’t put the ball in the back of the net you ain’t going to win games and I am afraid that it’s the story of our season, you know,’ he said after the game on Tuesday night.

‘We play nice football and I could count, four, five, at least five goalscoring chances, I think even my grandma could have put it in.

‘You put yourself on the back foot because you don’t want to score the goals and then they get two chances the whole game, two goals, and when you play football you play to win and when you don’t put the ball at the back of the net I am afraid no matter how good your team plays, how well organised you look, when you make two mistakes that cost you two goals and yeah…

‘I don’t even know what I am going to say to the boys because you can’t be hard because they really went out there to put on a show but unfortunately if you don’t score goals, you don’t win football games.

‘It becomes difficult and now it looks like it is a mountain to climb again for us but yeah, back to the drawing board, we continue to push forward,’ he concluded.
