Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has expressed his desire to one day coach Bafana Bafana after gaining experience in Europe.

McCarthy will head into the 2019-20 season for his third season in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) with the Citizens after finishing fourth in the Absa Premiership while claiming the MTN8 title.

However, McCarthy has set his sites on lifting the Absa Premiership title with City in the new season.

‘I’ve set goals for the team and myself. We [Cape Town City] are going for the PSL title,’ McCarthy told IOL.

‘I’ve had two seasons in which I’ve learnt a lot, worked hard, and the team has been there and thereabouts.’

The 41-year-old coach has opened up about his desire to coach in Europe before he is ‘educated’ enough to ome day coach the South African national team (Bafana Bafana).

‘I started this project at City and I want to cap it off with something special,’ he added.

‘After that, the plan is to educate myself even further by coaching in Europe. And then, one day, come back and take the national team (Bafana) where it’s supposed to be.’

McCarthy has made just two signings ahead of the new campaign by aquiring the services of Abbubaker Mobara and Tashreeq Morris.
