Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy says Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa reminds him of himself during his playing days.

The 23-year-old frontman has been in fine form since joining the Soweto giants from Bloemfontein Celtic at the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign.

Despite his form for Pirates, the Soweto giants currently occupy eighth place in the Absa Premiership standings with nine points from seven matches played.

McCarthy believes that Pirates have found a ‘crown jewel’ in Mabasa, who has already scored four goals in six appearances for the Buccaneers across all competitions so far this season.

‘Pirates have found themselves a crown jewel. They have got a guy who is hungry, he wants to score, he is powerful,’ McCarthy told KickOff.com.

‘He reminds me of myself a lot, because I used to like it with defenders tight on me. He is clinical in front of goal. As good as he has been on form, he is also scoring.

‘It’s good for South African football.’
