Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy wants his side to finish the year on a positive by claiming maximum points against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday, writs DYLAN APPOLIS.
The Citizens are set to welcome Siwelele to Cape Town Stadium when the two sides square off in their final Absa Premiership encounter for 2018.
The Mother City outfit are currently placed ninth on the league standings with 17 points after 13 games played so far this campaign.
McCarthy recently changed his tactics in their previous game by resting Siphelele Mthembu and used Ayanda Patosi as a ‘false nine’, which caught Chippa United coach Joel Masutha off guard as he planned for ‘Shaka’ to start for the home side in their 1-1 draw against Chippa United at Athlone Stadium last week.
‘There were a lot of positives from the game, even though we scored early and then couldn’t find the back of the net again,’ McCarthy said.
‘I didn’t have any complaints about my team’s performance‚’ said McCarthy‚ reflecting on the 1-1 home draw at the Athlone Stadium last week.
The City mentor gave his players the past weekend off to rest and recover as they prepare to take on Celtic on Saturday.
‘I liked the plan, but in the end it didn’t going according to our hopes‚’ he added.
‘Maybe it was because it was Athlone where every team has a chance to win.
‘But against Celtic we will be back at the Cape Town Stadium, which is much wider and where we can shift the team around.
‘I just hope my players won’t feel like they are ready to go on holiday. I want the team to play and to end off the year in style.’
The match at Cape Town Stadium kicks off at 6pm.
