Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy says he will change his approach when his side square off with Orlando Pirates in their Absa Premiership encounter at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The Citizens suffered their biggest defeat of the 2018-19 campaign when they fell to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

The defeat saw City dropped to 12th place in their Absa Premiership standings with five points from five games as they head into their next league encounter.

Speaking after the game, Head Coach Benni McCarthy revealed that maybe his side needs to change their approach to the game when they come up against Pirates, especially since they will be without their key defender, Taariq Fielies.

McCarthy says his side will tackle the Buccaneers with their own brand of football instead of going ‘pound for pound’ with the Soweto giants.

‘We go away to Pirates and now you look for a response, okay we learned from where it didn’t go our way. We try to play our football and our game when we create chances and punish teams if we take our chance. Maybe we need to change our mindset a bit instead of going pound to pound with teams,’ McCarthy told the media.

‘Maybe take a different approach to how we are going to play Pirates, not saying that we are going to be scared and we are going to park two busses, but maybe just to be a bit more responsible and think about a way we attack the next game.’

‘When you suffer four goals, it isn’t very mentally easy for goalkeepers to take. So maybe just change our approach a little bit tactically.’

The match at the Orlando Stadium kicks off at 7:30pm.
