Kaizer Chiefs moved up to second spot in the DStv Premiership log after a last-gasp 1-0 victory over Baroka FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.

Stuart Baxter made two changes from his side that drew against Cape Town City as Ramahlwe Mphahlele made way for Kearyn Baccus and Samir Nurković took the place of Bernard Parker in the starting lineup.

Amakhosi came out with intent in the opening stages of the game and nearly took the lead inside the eight minute when Samir Nurkovic cut the ball back for Khama Billiat, whose effort sailed inches wide of the target.

Keagan Dolly should have handed Chiefs the lead in the 11th minute but saw his effort hit the side netting before Phathutshedzo Nange had his snap shot tipped over the bar by Oscarine Masuluke two minutes later.

After the play was halted by bad lighting in the stadium, Brandon Petersen was called into making a comfortable save to deny Baroka before Masuluke made a save of his own to keep out Nurkovic’s header as the game went into the break locked at 0-0.

Chiefs picked up where they left off in the first had and almost took the lead early in the second half but Denwin Farmer did well to deny Billiat, who had Masuluke beaten.

Bakgaga should have broken the deadlock in the 63rd minute but Evidence Makgopa saw his header cross off the post.

Amakhosi made their first substitution of the game six minutes later as Leonardo Castro came on to replace Nurkovic before Sabelo Radebe came on in place of Baccus in the 81st minute.

Chiefs eventually scored the winning in stoppage time when Billiat found the back of the net after latching on to a Radebe cross as the Soweto giants snatch all three points away from home.
