Kaizer Chiefs will host Highlands Park at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening, with coach Ernst Middendorp revealing that they are set to be without their star forwards Khama Billiat and Samir Nurkovic, while Bruce Bvuma and Reeve Frosler will also miss out.
Amakhosi will play the Lions of the North in front of a capacity crowd on Wednesday after the club made tickets free as part of their 50th-anniversary celebration.
The club invited the media to Naturena on Monday to kick off the celebrations as well as launch their new, limited edition 50th-anniversary kit.
With Nurkovic missing the encounter through suspension after his yellow card against SuperSport, Middendorp also confirmed that Frosler, Billiat and Bvuma will also not be in action.
‘Samir is not available, I think it’s not a secret [after picking up his] fourth yellow card, so he will be out,’ confirmed Middendorp on Monday.
‘We have definitely some question marks with some other players – we had to take Reeve Frosler out after 70 minutes because of an injury challenge that he picked up already in December, before the Maritzburg United game, and that was why he was not in the XI.
‘But, we have a squad of a number of players and not only the so-called first XI. We will find the right combination, of course, depending on the outcome from Highlands Park and knowing how they are handling their matches.’
On Billiat and Bvuma Middensorp said: ‘As announced, believing that both players could be available where we have to target it, for the game against Golden Arrows on January 25.
‘I believe that’s the earliest time, if all goes well, that we can target to bring both players into a position for selection.’
