Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat jetted out of South Africa yesterday to join up with the Zimbabwe national side after overcoming an injury.

The former Sundowns man is one of the stalwarts in the Warriors side and missed last week’s shock 1-0 loss to Somalia in the first leg of their World Cup qualifier.

Billiat was originally left out of the squad due to injury, but the Zimbabweans are taking no chances with the second leg and have decided to call up the player who has since been deemed fit.

A statement from the Zimbabwean Football Association reads:

‘[Joey] Antipas calls for more reinforcements … Khama Billiat is on his way to join the team ahead of a World Cup qualifier against Somalia on 10 September.

‘He’s the only player who has scored in the Warriors’ last 5 competitive matches. Somalia carry a 1-0 lead from the first leg.’

Billiat made the short trip to Zimbabwe and will play a role in the game whether it be in the starting XI or off the bench, but Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp will certainly be hoping that his star man will return fully fit as they look to build on a good start to the season.
