Kaizer Chiefs defender Mario Booysen believes that it doesn’t matter who plays in the backline saying that you can’t question the ability of the Chiefs defenders, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
Booysen partnered Siyabonga Ngezana at the centre of defence for the Soweto derby loss to Orlando Pirates last weekend despite only playing once with the youngster all season, as Amakhosi coach Giovanni Solinas decided to rotate his defenders yet again.
The Italian coach has come under heavy criticism for his rotation policy, with many pointing the lack of continuity as a major factor in the defensive instability shown by the Glamour Boys all campaign.
The former SuperSport United defender, however, believes that it doesn’t matter who plays in the backline as all the defenders have an ability which can not be questioned.
‘I think with the amount of quality we have in the backline, anyone can play at the end of the day,’ said Booysen while speaking to the media ahead of the Telkom Knockout clash against SuperSport United.
‘I mean Danny [Daniel Cardoso], [Eric] Mathoho, Teenage [Hadebe] and Siya [Ngezana], we can all step up to the plate and it is up to the coach to decide.
‘I think you can’t question the quality that we have in the team, especially the backline. Yes we have taken a lot of criticism but it mustn’t hit our confidence because I believe you don’t become a bad player overnight.
‘We need to focus on the positives,’ concluded the defender.
