Jeremy Brockie of Mamelodi Sundowns celebrates breaking his goal drought

After finally opening his account at Mamelodi Sundowns, striker Jeremy Brockie has revealed that his confidence is sky-high heading into the clash with his former club SuperSport United.

The New Zealand international endured a difficult period after joining the Brazilians from SuperSport in January 2018. He struggled to adjust after arriving for a hefty fee, and went on a barren spell in front of goal.

The forward finally broke his scoring duck when he scored with a vicious volley against Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership earlier this month. He then followed that goal up with another spectacular volley in the Caf Champions League 2-0 victory over Leones Vegetarianos on Wednesday.

Speaking after the goal against Leones Vegetarianos, Brockie admitted that he had to remain mentally strong while on the bench, but he now feels as if he will score every time he steps on to a field.

‘I spent quite a lot of time on the bench not getting game time, but for me you just have to mentally prepare yourself and keep yourself in the right space, and make sure you keep yourself fit because you know that at some stage you are going to get an opportunity to play.

‘When I found out that I was going to play against Free State Stars I was quite confident going into that game. I finally broke the duck and now the confidence is back.

‘Every time I go on the pitch now I feel like I can get a goal; so to start off with a goal in the Champions League qualifiers is a very good feeling,’ concluded the striker.

Brockie will next come up against his former side SuperSport on Sunday afternoon, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

Next on his hit list is former side SuperSport United, who have to keep on high alert to keep him quiet.
