Maritzburg United have been dealt a major blow as midfielder Keagan Buchanan has been ruled out for several months with an injury to his ACL.

The Choice of Team captured his services  of the midfielder on a free transfer after he was released by Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the 2017-18 season.

The 27-year-old was forced to endured a frustrating time at Amakhosi after only managing to make three appearances in all competitions for the Naturena-based outfit.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder seemed to be adjusting to life at his new club – having already made four appearances for the club so far this campaign.

However. Maritzburg coach Fadlu Davids confirmed that Buchanan is unlikely to feature for the Team of Choice in 2018 after sustaining an ACL injury.

‘It’s a blow for us to lose him [Buchanan]. It happened at training, he will have a scan today to determine the extent of the injury,’ Maritzburg coach Fadlu Davids said in a club statement.

‘But it’s definitely an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), maybe not a complete rupture, either grade 2 or 3, which will put him out for a couple of months.’
