Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma says he is not at the club to add numbers as he continues to fight for a starting berth in the first team squad.

The 22-year-old has only featured twice for Amakhosi since making his first team debut last campaign, but he is yet to make an appearances for the Soweto giants this season.

Bvuma is currently third in the pecking order behind first-choice goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and Brilliant Khuzwayo.

The Gauteng-born keeper says he will continue to improve and develop as a player in his bid to succeed Khune and Khuzwayo in goal for Chiefs.

‘Of course I’m pushing hard and I’m not there to add numbers,’ Bvuma told KickOff.com.

‘I have a lot of respect for them [Khune and Khuzwayo] but at the end of the day I’m not here to add numbers. I’m also here for my family, I’m also here to fight for myself also.

‘But bear in mind that Chiefs have one of the best goalkeepers. I’m very grateful that I’m working with guys like Itu, Brilliant and goalkeeper coach Brian Baloyi, who was also my role model. So I’m really grateful for that.’

Kaizer Chiefs are set to take on Bidvest Wits in their Telkom Knockout Cup semi-final clash at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 15:30.
