Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma says he has mixed feelings after making his debut against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Absa Premiership.

A few days before he was named on the bench for Amakhosi’s clash against Mamelodi Sundowns, Bvuma signed a new contract, which keeps him at the club for the rest of the season, and for the next four years.

Bvuma enjoyed an excellent season for Chiefs’ in their MultiChoice Diski Challenge, starting in 12 of the 15 matches.

The 21-year-old says he has mixed feelings, after making his debut for the Glamour Boys against the defending Absa Premiership champions, insisting it was a dream opportunity.

‘That was an awesome feeling. I never dreamed that this opportunity would come so soon,’ Bvuma told the Kaizer Chiefs website.

‘The other goalkeepers helped me a lot. And when in camp, Itu came to my room and we had a man-to-man chat. Our goalkeeper coach, Alex Revoredo, also helped me, advising to ‘just relax and enjoy myself”.

‘They were applauding and celebrating every save or high ball I caught. That was a marvelous feeling.’

About having the 21-year-old sit on the bench for the huge game against Sundowns, Amakhosi’s goalkeeper coach Revoredo reacted by heaping praise on Bvuma. He said the shot-stopper handled his senior team debut like a seasoned goalkeeper.

‘Bruce is a no-stress guy. This was his first warming-up before an official game of the first team and he handled it as a seasoned keeper,’ Revoredo said.

‘From there on I knew that if we had needed him in the Sundowns match, Bruce would have risen to the occasion with confidence.’

Kaizer Chiefs will now travel to Kabokweni Stadium when they take on Acornbush United in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday.

Kick-off has been set for 15:00.
