Daniel Cardoso is solely focused on helping Kaizer Chiefs win the Absa Premiership title and qualify for next season’s Caf Champions League.
The 31-year-old defender has established himself as one of the key players in the Amakhosi squad at the heart of their defence, and has already managed to bag five goals and one assist in 22 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
Cardoso has pledged his loyalty to Amakhosi although his current contract with the club is set to expire at the end of June this year.
‘I think it is every footballer’s dream to play abroad, but we will see when we cross that bridge. I’m still contracted to Chiefs and I want to win trophies,’ Cardoso told IOL.
‘It will depend on what will happen throughout the season. Once we sit down and start talking, everybody will know. Up until then, I’m still a Chiefs player and I’m fully focused at the club.
‘Obviously, I need to play. I need to get game time so that I can be able to get a new contract. You are as good as your last game. That’s why it is important for me to stay consistent.’
The Glamour Boys currently have a 10-point lead over Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the league standings, with 45 points from 19 matches, and Cardoso is eager to help his side secure silverware this season in the hope of qualifying for the Caf Champions League.
‘Every trophy we compete in, we want to win it. Orlando Pirates have a star on their badge. Mamelodi Sundowns have a star on their badge,’ he added.
‘We also want that star on our badge. When we last played in the Caf Champions League we didn’t have a good experience but we learned from that.’
