Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso believes Amakhosi had a better 2016-17 campaign than the previous year, despite their trophyless season.

The Glamour Boys finished the 2016-17 campaign fourth in the Absa Premiership standings, scumming through their second consecutive season without a trophy.

The 28-year-old insists that Amakhosi fared better this campaign than they did in the previous season, despite not winning any silverware.

‘In terms of the team, the team has come together because last season we were worse off than we have been this season,’ Cardoso told KickOff.com.

‘This season, we went on a 15-game unbeaten run and I think we gelled well together. The players grew to know Steve’s philosophy of the game, his training methods and I thought it was much better than last season.’

Cardoso admits that the Glamour Boys will bring in a few players during the off-season to strengthen their squad, as they prepare for the 2017-18 campaign.

‘If we bring one or two players in they will learn quicker than bringing another seven or eight players in the team,’ he added.

‘I think we need to work on the squad that we have now because I think we have a great squad. I think if we can keep this squad next season we will win trophies next season.

‘This season we brought in another eight or so new players again and it affects the team because they have to learn the training methods and philosophy. I thought they picked up pretty fast, quicker than last season and, like I said, if we keep the same team and stick with the same methods, we will definitely win trophies next season.
