Bloemfontein Celtic have revealed that they have no intention of letting Lorenzo Gordinho return to Kaizer Chiefs before his loan spell is complete.

The defender moved to the Free State-based outfit in January on a 12-month loan stint. After showing some defensive frailties, Chiefs decided to recall the player.

Amakhosi football manager Bobby Motaung released a statement on Thursday asking for Gordinho to return to Naturena before 31 August 2018, the end of the current transfer window.

Celtic were quick to respond, speaking to IOL shortly after Chiefs released their statement. Celtic chief executive Khumbulani Konco insisted that under no circumstances would they agree to Gordinho’s early departure.

‘The answer is no,’ said Konco.

‘We have agreed to Lorenzo being at Celtic for 12 months and that is until January next year. Those were the terms of our deal. He will not be going anywhere.’

In the statement, Motaung also alluded to Gordinho’s unhappiness with the uncertainties at the club after the Celtic players were forced to go on strike last month due to unpaid salaries.

‘I can guarantee you that Lorenzo has never told the club – unofficially or officially – that he wants to leave and go back to Chiefs,’ said Konco.

Chiefs now have until 31 August to convince Celtic to end the defenders loan spell early, but they face an uphill task given Gordinho’s impact in Celtic’s opening two game victories, where he helped guide them to successive clean sheets.
