Despite a Man of the Match performance for Kaizer Chiefs in their 4-1 victory in the Macufe Cup this weekend, Siphiwe Tshabalala has played down the win.
Having started the season poorly, the Glamour Boys have hit form in recent weeks and now sit top of the Premiership Standings with five fixtures played.
In the meantime, Steve Komphela afforded his fringe players an opportunity to shine in the friendly cup tournament this weekend, where Tshabalala continued to impress following his return from injury. Nevertheless, the veteran believes he and his side have a lot of work to do.
‘It was a good feeling to play 90 minutes and overall we did well as a collective,’ Tshabalala told SABC after the game, reports KickOff. ‘This is a game that we wanted and it shows with the line-up that we had, and we also had a good bench, so for us it was business usual.’
Tshabalala did admit maintaining momentum was key for the side as they have now won four fixtures on the trot, the Macufe Cup success following hot on the heels of three consecutive league triumphs.
‘When we win, that’s the harder we work, and we don’t want to rest on our laurels,’ he added. ‘We haven’t done much, you know, it’s just the beginning. We’re not there yet but we’re a work in progress,’ he concluded.
Tshabalala, who is easing his way back into the Chiefs lineup, has made two substitute appearances in competitive fixtures thus far this season.
