Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has conceded that he isn’t interested in the Absa Premiership title race and is instead focused on the Nedbank Cup final.
Chiefs’ arch rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are the two teams currently looking most likely to lift the Absa Premiership come May, with Amakhosi sitting way adrift in seventh place.
Middendorp’s charges were counted out of the race a couple of weeks ago, and as a result the German tactician is insisting that he only has one focus, and that is the upcoming Nedbank Cup final on 18 May.
‘I’m really not interested at all to make a comment on who is making the race on the title. I have only one focus – that’s 18 May, and we have to also collect maximum points [before then],’ said Middendorp.
‘The rest should be discussed on your side. Good luck to whoever will be champions in the end of the season, I congratulate each and everybody. Let them fight and that’s it.’
Chiefs are next in action over the weekend as they travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium to face Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday evening.
Saturday’s fixture 27 APRIL, against @KaizerChiefs has been moved to Peter Mokaba Stadium due to the unavailability of @MolemelaStadium (parts of the stadium are damaged) and the alternative venue, Toyota Free State Stadium, is hosting a rugby match.#SiweleleSaMasele pic.twitter.com/z088udtWJN
