Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso is hoping that his performances in the 2017-18 Absa Premiership season will land him a Bafana Bafana call-up.

Cardoso has played a bit-part role for Chiefs since his arrival from Free State Stars in July 2015 – making 22 appearances in all competitions while netting once.

Towards the end of the disappointing 2016-17 campaign, Cardoso featured prominently in Komphela’s side, making six appearances in their last ten PSL games, and the 28-year-old highlighted what he expects from the new campaign.

‘For me, my personal goals are to play a lot more this season. I want to be a regular in the starting eleven, and I’m working towards that,’ he told KickOff.com.

‘And also to get a call-up to the national team again, but besides all of that, I want to win trophies with Chiefs – that’s what I came here to do.

‘I came from Free State Stars, where we were fighting relegation every season and I came to Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs is a team that always wins trophies and I want to win trophies with them,’ he added.

The centre back also revealed that the team’s pre-season preparations are going well, following their Maize Cup triumph over the weekend.

‘Pre-season is going very well. We won the Maize Cup on the weekend [after beating Free State Stars 2-0].

‘I think it’s a confidence booster for us, giving players a run and the players that they [the technical team] haven’t seen, players who hadn’t played in a while.

‘The fans got to see the [new] players [as well], the coach [Steve Komphela] is also working on different combinations, and every player that comes to Chiefs adds value,’ he added.

Cardoso faces stiff competition for a starting berth, following the arrival of Teenage Hadebe from Chicken Inn.
