Kaizer Chiefs scooped both monthly awards for September as Giovanni Solinas was named Coach of the Month, while Khama Billiat picked up the Player of the Month award, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
Solinas guided the Glamour Boys to three wins and a draw in the month of September, as they beat Cape Town City (4-1), Free State Stars (2-0) and AmaZulu (2-0) to climb up the Absa Premiership table.
Solinas infamously got off to a though start at Naturena as his side failed to win any of their opening six league fixtures.
However, since the previous international break, where Solinas hailed the impact that the time off afforded him to work with his team, the Amakhosi have been a different team.
The improvement at Chiefs has also largely been down to the winner of the Player of the Month award, Billiat.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward has drawn huge praise from not only his coach, but from the fans and media alike for his impressive performance in the black and gold of the Soweto giants.
Billiat scored two goals while also providing two assists in September as he played a vital role in helping his side pick up some vital points after their early season struggles.
In particular, Billiat’s performance in the 4-1 win over Benni McCarthy’s Cape Town City, where he scored a brace, had South African football viewers purring.
After picking up the awards, Solinas and his men will now be looking to consistently win three points, starting with Saturday’s clash against Polokwane City.
