Kaizer Chiefs' Bobby Motaung

Bobby Motaung says Kaizer Chiefs are in no rush to appoint a new coach, despite there being less than a month until the commencement of the 2018-19 Absa Premiership season.

Chiefs have been without a head coach, following the resignation of Steve Komphela during the latter stages of the 2017-18 season after a defeat to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup.

The Soweto giants have since released a number of players, which include the likes of Keagan Buchanan and Tsepo Masilela, while there have also been a number of arrivals, most notably former Footballer of the Year, Khama Billiat from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs have been linked with Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter, Morocco mentor Herve Renard and Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael to mention a few, but nothing concrete has come of these reports.

Bobby Motaung, who recently publicised Chiefs’ struggles in finding a new coach says that the club are in no hurry to find Komphela’s replacement.

‘The issue of the coach is a very sensitive issue,’ he told kickoff.

‘If you check what transpired last year and the past three seasons as a club, the chairman [Kaizer Motaung] is obviously overseeing everything. We got to make sure about who ever we bring on board.

‘So it is not an easy job. Kaizer Chiefs is not like a small club where we just appoint tomorrow. We’ve got to look at a lot of things.

‘Firstly, it is about the players, management, change room management. It is about tactical awareness. It is about maturity, leadership and about supporters. Remember our fans have expectations.

‘We have to make sure whoever we appoint understands the pressure that comes with the job.

‘Unfortunately, more qualified coaches who are quality are not available. We are not going to go out just to make favours and appoint because we are under pressure.

‘We will rather be patient and appoint the right person at the right time. So we are not going to make promises or succumb to pressure,’ he concluded.
