Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic is set to miss the next six to eight weeks of action after going under the knife to repair a cartilage tear in his right knee.
Chiefs have endured a difficult start to the 2021-22 season and have now been dealt a major blow with Nurkovic set for a spell on the sidelines.
The Soweto giants confirmed on Thursday that the Serbian had surgery at the Rosebank Clinic in Johannesburg last week, after it was discovered that he had suffered a minor tear in the cartilage of his right knee.
The operation was successful but the forward faces almost two months of rehab before returning to the pitch.
“Samir had surgery last week. They found a little tear in the cartilage of the right knee. The surgeon says he could be out between 6 to 8 weeks,” Chiefs head physiotherapist David Milner told the club’s website.

“They smoothed out the cartilage. Overall the operation was a success and in a week’s time, he will be reassessed by the surgeon. We will have a clearer idea as to what is going on and plan the recovery process. We believe the timeline provided is one we can work with for now.”
Nurkovic also revealed that while he is still on crutches he is hoping to start rehab soon.
“All is well. It has been just a week since surgery,” he said. “I am still moving around with crutches, it’s still painful, I am getting better, and hopefully soon we can start the rehab.”
