Kaizer Chiefs youngster Happy Mashiane is set to miss the next four weeks of action through injury.
The youngster has been ever-present in the Chiefs side since his promotion from the Multichoice Diski Challenge side back in January.
The 21-year-old started all four matches since making his PSL debut for the club in their 1-0 victory over ABC Motsepe League side Tornado FC in the Nedbank Cup opening, but was a noticeable absentee from last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Speaking after the game, coach Ernst Middendorp confirmed that the player will be out of action for at least a month after picking up an injury during the 3-0 extra time win over Magic FC in the Nedbank Cup.
‘Happy was quite influential in all our recent games, but he came out of the [last] game with a broken bone and will also be out for four weeks. What must I do?’ said the German coach.
‘I cannot … That’s a simple way of how we have to deal with situations in the moment, which is very distracting and disturbing.
‘We had a very good player on the left wing, with a lot of influential moments, but unfortunately now we don’t have him for four weeks, not because he made a mistake, but because he got absolutely kicked several times.’
Mashiane looks set to miss the league encounters against Highlands Park, Maritzburg United and SuperSport United, but will be hopeful of a return to action for the Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against Cape Town City at the end of March.
