Kaizer Chiefs have suffered two big injury blows, with defenders Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Erick Mathoho set for lengthy spells on the sidelines after undergoing surgery.
Chiefs face a tough fixture schedule under new coach Ernst Middendorp and will now be without two key defenders, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Bafana Bafana right-back Mphahlele suffered a knee injury in a league game with Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on December 1, and he is expected to need six to eight weeks to recover from his surgery.
While centre-back Mathoho suffered a more serious injury, as he tore his ankle ligaments in a Caf Confederation Cup second leg tie with Zimamoto at Amaan Stadium a week ago, and will now miss at least three months of action.

The Glamour Boys will also be without striker Ryan Moon. His injury, however, is not as serious, as he returned from Zanzibar with a small fracture under the eye socket and will be monitored closely to determine his availability.
Amakhosi are seventh on the Absa Premiership log and will be looking to pick up points when next in action against SuperSport United in what would be Ernst Middendorp and Shaun Bartlett’s first assignment.
Chiefs and SuperSport clash at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday evening, with kick-off at 7:30 pm.
