Portuguese outfit FC Famalucao has confirmed the signing of South African defender Thibang Phete on a long-term deal.
The 25-year-old joined FC Famalucao as a free agent after putting pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Portuguese outfit.
The former Milano United defender was recently linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, but has instead opted to join the Portuguese top-flight club.
Phete played for Vitoria de Guimaraes B in the Segunda Liga but will now have the opportunity to make his mark in the Primeria Liga during the 2019-20 season.
‘Cafu’, as he is affectionately known, managed to find the back of the net three times for Vitoria de Guimaraes while racking up 26 appearances in the process.
However, Phete is determined to prove his worth in the new season and has his sights set on earning a call-up to Stuart Baxter’s Bafana Bafana side.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Phete said: ‘Very happy to be able to play in the Football Club Famalicao, before the fans who filled the stadium last year with an incredible atmosphere. I look forward to demonstrating my quality and meeting the goals of the club to one day get to the national team.’
