Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the Maize Cup final after beating Buya Msuthu 2-0 at the James Motlatsi Stadium on Saturday morning, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

Amakhosi came out with intent in the early stages of the game and threatened the Msuthu goal when Hendrick Ekstein’s shot was blocked from close range.

Chiefs eventually broke the deadlock in the 16th minute when Bernard Parker latched on to a cross from Siphiwe Tshabalala before slotting the ball home from close range.

Msuthu had a chance of their own in the 30th minute, but Alucious Wagaba fired his effort wide of the target.

Ekstein should’ve doubled his sides lead but was unable to convert his effort as Chiefs went int tje half time break with a 1-0 lead over Msuthu.

Msuthu came out with more intent in the second half and registered a shot on goal, but Mmiseni Ndlovu failed to captalise on poor defending from Amakhosi.

Simphiwe Ndlovu had a golden opportunity to hand his side the lead in the 73rd minute, but Itumeleng Khune was on hand to deny his effort from close range.

The Soweto giants eventually doubled their lead with seven minutes remaining when Ekstein set up Yusuf Bunting, who guided the ball past goalkeeper Sabelo Nkomo.

Amkhosi held on to their two-goal lead over Msuthu until the final whistle to book their place in the Maize Cup final.
