The Absa Premiership fixture between Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits has been suspended until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Glamour Boys were initially scheduled to welcome the Clever Boys to the FNB Stadium in their next league encounter on Wednesday evening.
Following PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza’s decision to suspend all games this week, the mouth-watering fixture has been called off.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns were scheduled to play Orlando Pirates in this week’s other main clash but has since been postponed until further notice. Eight other league matches scheduled for this week were also postponed.
Kaizer Chiefs released the following statement:
‘In the interest of public safety following the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus [coronavirus], the Premier Soccer League has taken a decision to postpone all the Absa Premiership matches scheduled for midweek and the weekend.
‘This is in line with the government’s mandate on public gatherings that prohibits any meeting of more than 100 people at one time.
‘As a result, Amakhosi’s matches against Bidvest Wits scheduled for the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, 18 March and the next fixture away at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on 22 March against Polokwane City, have been suspended.
‘Supporters who have purchased tickets for the matches are encouraged to keep their tickets until further notice.
‘The remaining fixtures for the Multichoice Diski Challenge have been discontinued and as a result the Chiefs reserve team will not be in action for the remainder of the season.
‘The PSL Board of Governors will convene another meeting on Thursday, 19 March to plot the way ahead for the remainder of the season.’
