Chippa United will begin the search for a new head coach after Norman Mapeza’s shock resignation on Monday.
The coach resigned at a crucial time with the Chilli Boys sitting 11th in the premiership standings, five points off the drop zone.
Many thought the pressure on the coach would ease after Chippa beat AmaZulu 1-0 over the weekend to break a five-game winless streak.
It is believed that the coach resigned over misunderstandings over the roles of his backroom staff, while the club’s chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi, reportedly tried to persuade the coach to stay.
‘Chippa United tried without a success to persuade Norman Mapeza to stay as the club’s head coach. The chairman being someone known for firing coaches, was the one pleading with the coach to stay this time, but to no avail,’ said a source close to the club according to SoccerLaduma.
Chippa have acted quickly by placing Mapeza’s assistant, Mbuyiselo Sambu, in temporary charge of the technical team while they search for a new coach.
