Chippa United played to a 3-3 draw with Platinum Stars in a six-goal thriller at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Sunday afternoon, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The encounter got off to a slow start with both teams trying to find their rhythm in the opening exchanges of the match.

However, it was the Chilli Boys who drew first blood when Fares Hachi picked out Mark Mayambela before the winger headed the ball home to make it 1-0.

Chippa nearly doubled their lead as Abel Mabaso saw his effort cleared off the line by the Dikwena defence.

Dikwena then levelled matters in the 40th minute through Riyaad Norodien, who slotted the ball past Daniel Akpeyi to find the back of the net, 1-1.

The encounter at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium went into the half time interval with the scoreline locked at 1-1.

The visitors came out with more intent in the second half, but were struggling to break down the Chilli Boys defence.

Mayambela restored his side’s lead on the hour mark when he beat the Dikwena wall and keeper Mbongeni Mzimela to find the net from a well-taken free-kick.

Akpeyi came to the rescue nine minutes later after producing a superb one-handed save to deny Norodien’s free-kick.

Norodien was not to be denied in the 75th minute when he latched on to a pass from substitute Gerald Phiri before unleashing a powerful strike to beat Akpeyi between the stick for Chippa, 2-2

The Chilli Boys once again to take the lead in the 84th minute after substitute Andile Mbenyane slotted the ball into the back of the net despite being under pressure.

However, Stars drew level for the third time in the game when Phiri directed his free-kick past the Chippa keeper to find the back of the net.

Neither side were able to find the winning goal as both side’s shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
