Wayne Arendse played the role of both hero and villain as Mamelodi Sundowns left the Sisa Dukashe Stadium with a point after playing to a 1-1 draw against Chippa United.
The match was played in appalling conditions in Mdantsane as the rain turned sections of the pitch into a mudbath. Wayne Arendse opened the scoring in the 18th minute after beating Daniel Akpeyi following a Teko Modise free kick.
18 minutes later Arendse brought down Buyani Sali inside the area. Chippa’s Rhulani Manzini stepped up to the spot and made no mistake in levelling the scores.
Modise missed numerous chances, but none more glaring then when he failed to tuck away the rebound following Leonardo Castro’s shot in the 75th minute.
With the clock winding down, both sides had chances to seal the win, with the hosts coming the closest when Linda Siba tested Wayne Sandilands from close range. The veteran keeper earned his side a share of the spoils by palming away the fiercely struck effort.
The draw sees Sundowns remain in fifth place following the draw.
