Chippa United have bolstered their squad by signing former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thabo Nthethe ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Nthethe brings a wealth of experience to the club, having won three Absa Premiership titles, a Telkom Knockout trophy and the Caf Champions League during his trophy-laden spell at Sundowns.
The club’s chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi, confirmed the 33-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the Port Elizabeth-based outfit.
‘Thabo is a player with the right characteristics and a perfect fit for the club,’ Mpengesi told his club’s official website.
‘He is a defender that is comfortable with the ball. He is a leader on and off the pitch. We are delighted to have him on board.
‘We have a relatively young team and we have no doubt that Thabo will share his experience positively with the rest of the squad.
‘We welcome him to the Eastern Cape and wish him all the best,’ he concluded.
Over the course of his career, Nthethe has scored 16 goals and assisted a further four from 305 appearances in all competitions playing for Bloemfontein Celtic and Sundowns.
On an international level, the defender has been capped 21 times while scoring one goal since his debut in 2009 under then coach Joel Santana.
