Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has admitted that the club is interested in Orlando Pirates utility player Abbubaker Mobara but revealed that they are yet to agree on a deal.
The City boss has been looking to bring in some new player to build on a solid season under Benni McCarthy where they won the MTN 8 as well as producing a solid attempt at league glory.
Comitis revealed to the Citizen that he is considering the versatile Mobara, but they are yet to make a deal due to the size of his contract at Pirates.
‘I’ve been trying to get hold of Irvin [Khoza, Pirates boss] to chat about Mobara, but we just haven’t been able to discuss things as yet,’ said Comitis.
Mobara’s current contract with the Buccaneers is expected to expire at the end of this month, but Pirates reportedly has an option to extend it by a further year.
‘The player is on a big contract at Pirates and that’s something we will have to consider. We are interested – he is the type of player who could work well for us,’ he continued.
‘But, right now, there’s still a long way to go and we certainly can’t confirm that a deal is in place to bring Mobara to City.’
The 25-year-old signed for the Soweto giants from Ajax Cape Town prior to the start of the 2016-17 season.
Mobara initially settled well but has found game time hard to come by since the arrival of Serbian coach Milutin Sredojevic in August 2017.
