Cape Town City and SuperSport United played out to a 0-0 draw in a dull game at the Cape Town Stadium in the Absa Premiership, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
SuperSport came into the game off the back of a 0-0 draw with Orlando Pirates and were desperate for three points to steer them away from relegation. Sixth-placed City were looking to grab another home win in their pursuit of a top-eight finish.
Both teams started the game off passively as they looked to find their feet in the opening minutes.
Benni McCarthy’s team then came close to opening the scoring on 18 minutes. A cross was played to Taariq Fielies but the defender’s shot rattled the woodwork when he ought to have scored.
Matsatsantsa then began to find their feet as they looked to keep possession and control the tempo of the game.
Neither side could find a goal before the break, 0-0 the score at half-time.
Not much changed in the second half as the game was proving to be a tedious affair.
United then came close to taking the lead. A corner kick found Clayton Daniels whose header beat Sage Stephens all ends up but struck the upright. With 78 minutes played, the game was still goalless.
In the end, neither side did enough to grab all three points, 0-0 the score at full time after an uneventful game at the Cape Town stadium.
