Cape Town City have announced the signing of Abbubaker Mobara from Orlando Pirates.

The Citizens announced the deal via their Twitter page on Wednesday morning after chairman John Comitis had confirmed earlier on in the week that the club was interested in the 25-year-old and that negotiations had started, but his financial demands could prove a stumbling block.

Comitis quickly overcame this hurdle as he got his man just a few days later.

Mobara signed for the Buccanneers three seasons ago but struggled to fully cement a spot in the team. His game time was further hampered by the arrival of Milutin Sredojevic as the versatile player only made eight appearances in all competitions last season.

Mobara, who left Ajax Cape Town to join the Soweto giants, will return to his home where he will link up with fellow Capetonian Riyaad Norodien, who made the same move last season.

The former Ajax Cape Town star will now look to reignite his career under Benni McCarthy at City as he aims to force his way back into Stuart Baxter’s plans with the South African national team.
