Cape Town City have confirmed the signing of midfielder Lyle Lakay from Bloemfontein Celtic to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2017-18 Absa Premiership season.
Lakay’s deal with Celtic was set to expire on 30 June 30 and they had the option of extending his contract for a further year, but Siwelele failed to act on the option before 30 May.
Lakay has now signed a three-year deal with City, which puts an end to months of speculation regarding his future, after he was linked with a move to Bidvest Wits.
Over the course of his career Lakay has netted seven goals and created a further 14 assists from 124 appearances in all competitions playing for the likes of SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic.
The 25-year-old becomes City’s third signing ahead of the 2017-18 season, and now joins the likes of Ayanda Patosi and Mozambican defender Jeitoso.

The former FC Cape Town man is expected to fill the void left by outgoing midfielder Bhongolethu Jayiya in Benni McCarthy’s side, especially with the recent injury of prized City asset Aubrey Ngoma, who is said to be out for six months with a knee injury.
City return to pre-season on 1 July and will look to hit the ground running as they prepare for their new season, which will see them compete in the CAF Confederations Cup campaign.
