John Comitis has confirmed that Cape Town City were interested in signing Bafana Bafana and former Orlando Pirates forward Tokelo Rantie.
The Citizens acquired the services of former Inter Milan and West Ham striker Victor Obinna, but parted ways with the Nigerian after a dismal return of one goal in 14 appearances.
The Mother City outfit then dipped into the transfer market to acquire the services of former Kaizer Chiefs marksman Matthew Rusike; however, Comitis admits that they were, in fact, looking to sign Rantie.
‘Yes, I did try and get hold of Tokelo Rantie,’ he told IOL.
‘He was very difficult to get hold of. I did speak to him once. It looked like a possibility, but unfortunately, he had some personal issues to deal with, and we were unable to secure any advanced stage discussions with him.
‘He just remains someone at the back of our mind,’ he added.
The Stars of Africa Academy graduate is currently a free agent after parting ways with Genclerbirligi in Turkey.
