Cape Town City have confirmed that their Absa Premiership encounter with Kaizer Chiefs will be played at Newlands Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Citizens are set to host Amakhosi in their upcoming league encounter next week, but there has been uncertainty over the venue due to the unavailability of Cape Town Stadium.
The Cape Town-based outfit, along with the Premier Soccer League (PSL), conducted a final pitch inspection at Cape Town Stadium before confirming the venue for their upcoming league match.
However, City have now confirmed that their mouthwatering fixture against Amakhosi will be played at Newlands Stadium instead of their official home ground, Cape Town Stadium.
The Citizens released the following statement:
‘Cape Town City FC can officially confirm that the club’s Absa Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs, scheduled for 27 August 2019 at 19h30, will be played at the Newlands Rugby Stadium.
‘After a thorough inspection by the Premier Soccer League on Wednesday, and despite the best efforts of Cape Town Stadium management, the Cape Town Stadium pitch is still not up to PSL standards. While there has been a significant improvement in the growth of the pitch over the last few weeks, the traction on the pitch itself is still at a level that would be unsafe for both City and Chiefs players.
‘After the latest round of inspections and meetings with Cape Town Stadium, the club is confident that the next home fixture on 22 September against Golden Arrows will be playable at the Cape Town Stadium as scheduled.
‘The club once again thanks WP Rugby and our relationship with them, for the continued use of Newlands Stadium. We have no doubt that the venue will provide another amazing match-day experience as was evident in the previous MTN8 fixture at Newlands.’
