Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids hailed his players’ resilience after holding on for a 0-0 draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Friday night.
The Team of Choice faced the daunting prospect of playing over 75 minutes with 10-men after Siphesihle Ndlovu received his marching orders early in the first half.

A combination of some heroic defending from the home side and some poor finishing from the Glamour Boys, however, saw the teams share the spoils.
Speaking after the game to SuperSport, Davids hailed his team’s efforts after the early red card.
‘It was about the fight, you know, getting that first point on the board. I’m extremely proud of the players today.

‘You know, you can easily crumble against a quality side like Chiefs after going a man down so early in the game.
‘But the way we started that game — that first 15 minutes, really fantastic, really with the intensity that we want to play, so that was absolutely marvelous,’ added Davids.
‘Of course, the turning point ― the red card ― but then you’ve got to give the players credit really, to give everything out there. They left everything out there to earn the first point of the season.’
Maritzburg won their first point of the season, while Chiefs remain winless in the league under new coach Giovanni Solinas.
