Ajax Cape Town coach Roger de Sa has implied that striker Prince Nxumalo is likely to feature from the start in his side’s clash this evening.
De Sa has largely opted for Nathan Paulse to lead the line this season but with the side’s leading scorer having picked up an injury in Ajax’s 2-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs the weekend before last, Nxumalo looks certain to be unleashed against Bidvest Wits on Wednesday evening.
Ajax have struggled to find the back of the net this season and have scored just three goals in five Premiership fixtures thus far. De Sa, however, believes the lack of goals can easily be explained.
‘Obviously, we started off with the three strikers, Paulse, Prince and Lupeta, while Morris has always been a fourth striker for us,’ De Sa told KickOff.
‘With Nathan finding good form at the beginning of the season, and then Prince and Lupeta picking up injuries in the pre-season, it opened the door for him. He has done very well and is currently the second top goal scorer in the PSL, if I’m not mistaken.’
De Sa explained that Nxumalo had suffered a severe spell of illness in the opening weeks of the season and that this had hindered his return to action. More recently, however, the striker has proven he is close to full fitness.
‘Prince did show good signs at training, despite not being hundred per cent fit, and looking at his shape, that’s what we went with. So, right now, probably Prince is leading the pack, but Lupeta is hot under [sic] his heels,’ De Sa concluded.
The match between Ajax and Wits will take place at the Cape Town Stadium, with kick-off set at 19:30.
