Maritzburg United coach Roger De Sa believes his side should’ve been more composed during their 2-1 defeat against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.
The Team of Choice currently sits eighth in the Absa Premiership standings with 20 points from 17 matches played, while winning only five so far this season.
The 52-year-old says he was disappointed by the outcome of the match but insists that it gave him an opportunity to access his players.
‘It was a good game, but we’re obviously disappointed we didn’t get anything out of it, expect I get to learn a bit more about the players I’m going to work with,’ De Sa told the Maritzburg United website.
‘We were okay in the first half. But I don’t think Evans [Rusike] really got into the game, I thought Deolin [Mekoa] was also very quiet and we needed more from them.
De Sa believes that if the Team of Choice were more composed on the field, they stood a chance of earning a point or even winning the match.
‘We fought hard to get the goal back. But then I thought our match management was poor, you’ve got to keep the ball a bit longer, were them down a bit more, we tried to play end-to-end stuff against Kaizer Chiefs, it’s not going to work, you’ve got to play at your pace and we didn’t do that,’ He added.
‘Against Chiefs, you have got to be a lot better. You can’t make a lot of unforced errors and give the ball away unnecessary, you’ve got to punish them, and we had opportunities to maybe get a lot more out of the game.
‘We should have been more composed and consolidated our position. It’s a learning process, especially with lots of young players, so we’ll sit and show them the video.’
Meanwhile, club captain Kurt Lentjies will return from suspension, while De Sa is hopeful that Belgian striker Andrea Fileccia will be available for selection after recovering from injury.
Maritzburg United will next take on SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 20:15.
