South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan shared his thoughts on veteran midfielder Teko Modise announcing his retirement from professional football.
The 36-year-old will play his last game on Saturday when Cape Town City travel to Black Leopards in the final Absa Premiership game of the season.
Modise is one of the most decorated footballers in South African, and has represented the likes of SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City, and has won several major trophies during his illustrious career, while making over 50 appearances Bafana Bafana.
Dr Jordaan shared his fondest memories of watching Modise playing for his domestic club as well as the South African national team.
‘The news that Teko Modise has decided to hang up his boots and retire from football, brings back many memories of days of celebration and the joy of special skills and many imaginative and creative passes. Teko was always a joy to watch and he has won every major title with all the clubs that he played for. He played for only the biggest clubs in the country and won the Caf Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns, helping them to be the first South African club to play in a Fifa Club World Cup.
‘He’s had his own contribution on an international level as a member of Bafana Bafana. He was a good servant of the game and inspired many young players to emulate him and we hope that he continues to be a service to football. Well done Teko, rest well and we will find you in your next job,’ he concluded.
