Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has stressed the importance of building on their win in the Nedbank Cup as they prepare for their upcoming DStv Premiership clash against Sekhukhune United on Wednesday.
Stellies have now reached their second consecutive Nedbank Cup semi-final after cruising to a comfortable 4-0 win over SuperSport United at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday.
The Maroons have now extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 21 matches following their win against Gavin Hunt’s side.
Barker’s side will now travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium when they face off against Sekhukhune, hoping to maintain their unbeaten run.
“After a very convincing performance in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final against SuperSport United, it’s back to the league, with a back-to-back league fixture against Sekhukhune United,” Barker told his club’s official website..
“They have been a difficult opponent for us to face over the last couple of years and even in our last match. Conditions weren’t ideal but it was not an easy tie, although I do think we created the better chances and were unlucky not to get maximum points.
“We will be playing at their home ground now, though, and they have a good record there, so it’s important for us to build on Saturday’s performance with another of the same calibre if we want to get the win.
“It’s a vitally important match for us and if we’re able to get all three points, it will put us in a really, really strong position going into the last few games of the season.”
