Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker had no complaints about his side’s performance against Royal AM in the DStv Premiership.
The Maroons cruised to victory over Royal AM after claiming a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Devin Titus, Iqraam Rayners, and an own goal from Siphesihle Msomi at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.
The win sees Stellies remain in second place on the log with 35 points from 20 games, while Royal AM moved up to 11th place on the table with 25 points from 20 matches despite the defeat.
Barker has since expressed his pride at his team’s performance after they claimed their 10th win of the season.
“I’m obviously very pleased,” Barker said following the match. “I thought it was a very professional and mature performance, and reflective of a team that belongs where we are on the table, which is currently second.
“It was a solid performance all round where everybody did their bit. We kept a clean sheet and scored three goals, so one can’t complain about anything today. I was really proud of that.”
Stellies’ three-goal lead was achieved within the opening hour of the match, and Barker revealed that the early advantage allowed him to turn his attention toward Tuesday’s match against Kaizer Chiefs with some early substitutions of key players.
“Tuesday is close and fortunately the game allowed us to have the luxury of making substitutions to keep everyone ready and fresh because obviously, a big, big game awaits us,” he concluded.
