Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker was elated after his side were able to extend their unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership.
The Maroons stretched their unbeaten run across all competitions to 23 matches following their 2-1 victory over TS Galaxy on Sunday.
Lehlohonolo Mojela opened the scoring for Galaxy in the 41st minute but Stellies fought back to claim the win through goals from Fawaaz Basadien and Andre De Jong at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
The win takes Stellies moved back up to second place in the DStv Premiership standings with 43 points from 24 games, while the Rockets climbed to sixth position on the log with 34 points from 22 matches.
Barker was proud of his side’s performance, and he believes they showed “tremendous character” to walk away with all three points.
“We fought fire with fire tonight, dug deep and showed tremendous character,” Barker said.
“It was a massive performance at the end of a week in which we played two top-six clubs away and collected four points.
“I told my boys at half-time to up the intensity and they did. Given the strength of Galaxy at home I would have settled for a point, so to get all three is fantastic.”
