Cape Town Spurs midfielder Chumani Butsaka has opened up about his club’s captaincy while also touching on the club’s journey for the remainder of the season.

Butsaka was handed the captain’s armband for the second half of the season by head coach Ernst Middendorp following his stellar performance for the club so far this season.

The 22-year-old has been ever-present in the squad, having made 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and registering two assists while only missing one match this campaign.

After their slow start to the campaign, Butsaka says his side are working hard during training to improve their performance this season

“I’m grateful. Most of the players want to be in this position that I’m in, I just want to thank the technical staff for trusting me to do the job,” Butsaka told his club’s official website.

“We had a bumpy start in the first leg, so now we just have to rectify the mistakes that we made and play until the last whistle.”

The Urban Warriors captain also extended his advice to the academy boys by stating: “The talent gets you in the building, but hard work keeps you in the building.”
