Cape Town City have confirmed Cameroonian midfielder Brice Ambina’s departure to Norwegian outfit Valerenga.
Ambina joined the Citizens from the Cameroonian outfit Renaissance in February 2022 and quickly cemented his place as a crucial member of the squad.
In his first campaign with City, Ambina made 30 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 season.
The following season, Ambina only featured 15 times for City before securing a loan move to Norwegian side Vålerenga during the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old made 13 appearances for the Norwegian side and impressed them enough to secure a permanent move to the club.
“The club can confirm that it has agreed terms with Valerenga in Norway for the permanent transfer of Brice Ambina,” City said on social media.
“Another Cape Town City player on the European stage, keep making us proud Brice!”
Valerenga sporting director Joacim Jonsson added: “Brice has been a top priority all along, and I am very happy that we were able to resolve it.
“He has grown into the role in midfield, and complements the others in an exemplary way.
“There have been some good days, and now we will charge the batteries to come back even stronger in the autumn.”
The Norwegian club have since released the following statement on the matter, which reads:
Vålerenga and Cape Town City FC have agreed on a permanent transfer for Brice Ambina.
The 22-year-old’s loan was basically at the end of the road after the 8-0 victory over Sandnes Ulf yesterday, but fortunately the parties agree and Ambina is in royal blue for another 3.5 years.
