Kaizer Chiefs have announced that they have released midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange after his contract at the club expired.
The 31-year-old joined the Soweto giants from Stellenbosch FC in July 2021, where he scored five goals and assisted a further three from 24 appearances across all competition for Stellies.
The Limpopo-born midfielder only spent two seasons with Amakhosi and in that time he scored two goals in 31 appearances in all competitions.
In his final season with the Glamour Boys Nange struggled for game time and could only feature five times for the club but all coming off the bench.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to thank Phathu for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs over the past two years,” says Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr.
“It is a pity that injuries prevented him from playing regularly, as I am sure his undoubted quality would have added value to the team. We wish him success in his future endeavours.”
Amakhosi released the following statement on the matter which reads as follows:
“Midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange has been released by Kaizer Chiefs on the expiry of his contract. The 31-year old signed for Amakhosi from Stellenbosch FC in July 2021.”
“On the occasions he turned out in the Gold & Black, his effort and commitment were never questioned by supporters, among whom he was a popular player.
“However, the Limpopo-born midfielder saw his second season at Naturena blighted by injuries which curtailed coach Arthur Zwane’s ability to make regular use of his considerable talent.
“Nange played a total of 31 games for Amakhosi and scored 2 goals in all competitions for the Glamour Boys. In his first season, 2021/22, he played 26 matches, scoring 2 goals, and last season, he featured in 5 matches.
“Thank you Phathu, and good luck. All the best!”
