Kaizer Chiefs have announced the departure of defender Austin Dube.

The 30-year-old joined the Soweto giants from Richards Bay in July 2021 but struggled to cement his place in the starting line up of Amakhosi.

The defender made 17 appearances in his debut season for Amakhosi during the 2021-22 season but only managed one appearance for Chiefs during the 2022-23 season.

The former TS Galaxy defender is now rumoured to be re-joining Richards Bay ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Dube has become the fifth departure at Chiefs after Eric Mathoho, Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander and Khama Billiat.

“We are sad to see Austin leaving us, but we felt that it was in the best interests of the Club, as well as Austin himself, in terms of the furtherance of his career that we allow him the freedom to pursue other options and opportunities,” said Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr., following the official announcement.

“Austin has been a model professional during his time with us and we thank him for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs. We all wish him everything of the best,” added Motaung Jr.
